Maestro Savia Welcomes You to the 2008–2009 Classics Series!
This season is particularly near and dear to my heart as it is my 20th season serving as Music Director for the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. As we celebrate 74 years of providing live, symphonic music to the Tri-State, we invite you to share our passion for music throughout this season: “A Season of Love.”
This season we are launching a two-year celebration of Beethoven as we kick off The Beethoven Symphony Cycle. We will perform all of Beethoven’s 9 symphonies over the next two years. We kick it off on Opening Night with Beethoven’s propulsive Symphony No. 7 together with the electrifying pianist Alexander Toradze in Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto No. 1. Other repertoire highlights include Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique” and Stravinsky’s revolutionary “Rite of Spring.”
I invite you to check out our season below ... then get the hottest tickets in town! Order your season tickets today. I look forward to seeing you in the audience!

The Rite of Spring
|
Spring is the ultimate season of love! Two of nature’s forces collide — Beethoven’s peaceful “Pastoral” symphony and Stravinsky’s pulsating The Rite of Spring! First, relax by Beethoven’s babbling brook, revel in a dance, quiver in awe of a passing thunderstorm, and bask in the joyful knowledge that all is well. Then, experience one of the most earth-shattering and evocative scores ever created: Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring. Let it ignite your passion for our 75th Anniversary season!

Jennifer Koh, Violin
|
A stunning soundtrack to a night of romance! Mozart’s comical Overture to Cosi fan tutte unmasks the fickle degrees of love held within the human heart. Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4 showcases 2009 GRAMMYâ nominee and violinist Jennifer Koh, touted as a “risk-taking, high-octane player … who grabs the listener by the ears and refuses to let go.” Berlioz’s epic Symphonie Fantastique depicts the dramatic, dark side of love. (It gave Julia Roberts chills in the movie Sleeping with the Enemy.) Listen carefully as this haunting musical tale of obsession and fatal attraction unfolds before you.
