Don your denim! Our journey out of this world begins at home with a refreshing, down-to-earth Opening Night tribute to American music. This extraordinary evening begins with the clever and inspired Variations on “America” by Charles Ives, a composer often considered light years ahead of his time. World-renowned violinist Mark O’Connor takes the stage, joined by rising star Kelly Hall-Tompkins, for his Double Violin Concerto, a fusion of American music styles including Dixieland. Tap into your bold American spirit during Copland’s folksy and iconic Appalachian Spring. Then, you’re an American in Paris, reveling in the fun and excitement of the City of Light — with Gershwin as your guide!

After the concert, enjoy a free dessert reception for the entire audience hosted by the Evansville Philharmonic Crescendo Club.

Then, the winner of the 2010 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis takes the spotlight for the virtuosic and earthy Violin Concerto No. 3. The divine hymn Ave Verum Corpus, performed by your Evansville Philharmonic Chorus, sends you into orbit and Mozart’s magnificent “Jupiter” Symphony lifts your spirits to heavenly heights!

Then, enjoy a jazzy stop in Montevideo, a heart-pounding romp in Italy, and the vibrant Latin rhythms of Mexico. On our next stop, Leonard Bernstein takes you on a tour through the hustle and bustle of New York City. Then it’s “All Aboard!” for an aquatic trek led by Debussy – La Mer – surging with the evocative mystery and power of the sea.

The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and Owensboro Symphony Orchestra join forces for the first time to present Prokofiev’s Scythian Suite – unleashing an orchestra of astronomical proportions! Conducted by Alfred Savia, this work envelopes you with the awesome brilliance of a supernova! Then, buckle up for the blockbuster work that skyrocketed Holst to fame and inspired the music of “Star Wars”. “The Planets”, a musical exploration of our solar system conducted by Maestro Nicholas Palmer of the Owensboro Symphony, sends you soaring past the stratosphere, immerses you in the wonder of the universe, beckons you further into the unknown, and leaves you floating through the serenity of outer space and in harmony with the cosmos!
